Comparing Activity Tracking Wearables: Oura, WHOOP, and Biostrap

August 21, 2020Wearable Health and Fitness Tracker Reviews — How Do They Compare?
Recently, I set out to thoroughly review the three wearable devices I most commonly see worn and endorsed by biohackers: the Oura Ring, the Biostrap, and the WHOOP. The bigger question is, how do they compare to the “Big Boys” such as FitBit, Garmin, and the Apple Watch? But first, I wanted to ascertain if there is a clear winner between these three devices.
I methodically observed each device, wearing all three for an entire month, and broke down their features into three categories: user-friendliness and value, sleep tracking, and activity tracking.

Personally, the only device of the three I can recommend is the Oura ring. In fact, the issues with Biostrap and WHOOP are so significant that I cannot fathom how so many influencers are endorsing either, aside from Biostrap’s affiliate program and the possibility WHOOP may pay for endorsements (unsubstantiated). Oura closed down their own affiliate program, which is fine by me, as I have made the decision not to accept any affiliate commissions from any device I may recommend in the future. I want to keep my reviews as impartial as I can.

My Overall recommendation, based on the “lowest” total number:
1. Oura: 5
2. WHOOP: 8
3. Biostrap: 11
Numbers are accumulated in a 1-3 rank in 4 separate criteria, meaning the lowest possible score is 4 and the highest is 12.
